“All experience unfolds in four interrelated principles. To understand them is to understand the structure of one's own existence.”

The Philosophy of the Art of the Path is grounded in two dualities that generate four principles. Each principle has four levels of depth, from the most superficial to the most essential.

The Four Quadrants

The Two Dualities

First Duality: Being / Non-Being

The fundamental ontological duality. It defines what we are and how we relate to our identity.

  • BEING: Consciousness, inner space, what remains
  • NON-BEING: The ego, the masks, what is constructed

Second Duality: Thinking / Non-Thinking

The epistemic duality. It defines how we know and process reality.

  • THINKING: Analysis, understanding, active wisdom
  • NON-THINKING: Meditation, emptiness, receptive openness

The Four Levels

Each principle manifests at four levels of depth. The work of the path is to cross these levels consciously.

1

Surface Level

The most external and everyday manifestation of the principle. Where most people live unconsciously.

2

Intermediate Level

The recognition of the principle. The beginning of conscious observation.

3

Deep Level

The active integration of the principle into life. Sustained practice.

4

Essential Level

The full realization of the principle. Transcendence of the duality itself.

Interactions Between Principles

The four principles are not independent - they interact constantly. BEING uses THINKING to understand itself and NON-THINKING to experience itself. NON-BEING dominates when we forget to observe.

BEING + THINKING

Active self-knowledge. Consciousness that studies itself.

BEING + NON-THINKING

Deep meditation. Consciousness that experiences itself without analysis.

NON-BEING + THINKING

The rationalizing ego. Justifications and defenses of the ego.

NON-BEING + NON-THINKING

Unconsciousness. Automatisms and reactive patterns.

Practical Application

At any moment, ask yourself:

Where am I acting from?

From BEING (consciousness) or from NON-BEING (ego)?

How am I processing?

With THINKING (analysis) or with NON-THINKING (intuition)?

The goal is not to eliminate any principle, but to use all of them consciously, knowing when each one is appropriate.
