THE PRINCIPLE OF NON-THINKING
Fertile emptiness, receptivity, the silence that allows intuition. The space where the new arises, where consciousness rests in itself.
The Essence of NON-THINKING
“In the silence between thoughts, truth reveals itself. Not as a concept, but as direct experience.”
The principle of NON-THINKING represents mental silence, receptive openness, the emptiness that is not empty. It is the necessary complement of thinking: without pauses, the mind wears itself out; without silence, there is no space for intuition and deep understanding.
The Paradox of NON-THINKING
When we have no control over the ego, “non-thinking” is mistaken for unconsciousness - acting on autopilot. But when there is consciousness, “non-thinking” is pure presence: being completely here, now, without the veil of compulsive thinking.
The Four Levels of NON-THINKING
Pause
The most basic level: simply stopping. A moment between thoughts. The capacity to pause before reacting.
Mental Silence
Longer periods without compulsive thinking. The mind calms down, thoughts become spaced out. The beginning of genuine meditation.
Fertile Emptiness
Silence becomes rich, full of potential. It is not absence, but presence without mental content. Intuition flourishes here.
Total Opening
Consciousness without an object. Pure presence that needs no content. BEING resting in itself, complete, with no need to think.
Two Types of “Non-Thinking”
Unconsciousness (Unobserved Ego)
- Automatism: Acting without consciousness
- Distraction: Avoiding thinking through entertainment
- Denial: Repressing uncomfortable thoughts
- Dullness: States of mental sluggishness
This “non-thinking” is disguised unconsciousness.
Conscious Presence (Awake BEING)
- Meditation: Silence chosen consciously
- Contemplation: Being present without analyzing
- Flow: Action without separate thought
- Intuition: Knowledge without mental process
This “non-thinking” is full consciousness.
How to Tell Them Apart
Unconsciousness: Afterward you feel empty, exhausted, confused. You do not remember well what you did. There is a sense of having “lost” time.
Presence: Afterward you feel renewed, clear, connected. There is a sense of fullness, of having been completely present.
Cosmic Correspondence
By structural analogy—a correspondence of function, not of substance—NON-THINKING is read alongside the primordial state of the MCMC (S0), prior to every collapse: the dual unity of Primordial Mass (Mp) and Primordial Space (Ep) not yet unfolded, the potency of the cycle before the first form. As an image, it is the silence from which every sound arises.
Why It Is Difficult
NON-THINKING is the most challenging principle for the modern mind:
The Vertigo of Emptiness
The ego fears silence because in it, it loses its identity. Without thoughts, who am I? This vertigo is normal at first.
Culture of Noise
We live in constant stimulation. Silence has become uncomfortable, even threatening. We must re-learn how to be in stillness.
Addiction to Thinking
The mind is used to thinking compulsively. Letting go requires practice and patience.
Confusion with Passivity
NON-THINKING is not doing nothing. It is active presence, alert but without the filter of thinking.
Practices for Cultivating NON-THINKING
Emptying Meditation
5-20 minutes daily
- Sit comfortably, eyes closed
- Breathe naturally
- When a thought appears, label it: “thought”
- Return to the breath, to the space
- Do not fight; just observe and let go
Natural Contemplation
In nature
- Observe a tree, the sky, the water
- Do not analyze, just look
- Let beauty enter without interpretation
- Remain in direct experience
Activity in Flow
During absorbing activities
- Choose an activity you enjoy (art, sports, music)
- Immerse yourself completely in it
- Notice how separate thought disappears
- You and the activity become one
Micro-pauses
During the day
- Schedule 3-5 pauses of 30 seconds
- Stop what you are doing
- Three conscious breaths
- Notice the space that opens
Benefits of NON-THINKING
Mental Renewal
The mind rests and regenerates in silence.
Intuition
Answers arise when we stop seeking them.
Clarity
Without mental noise, we see things as they are.
Inner Peace
Silence is the home of BEING.
